Backglance ("the App", "we", "us", or "our") is designed from the ground up to protect your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what data the App does and does not handle, and how it operates on your device.

The short version: Backglance does not collect, store, record, or transmit any personal data. Everything happens on your device. Nothing leaves it.

1. Data We Do Not Collect

1.1 Camera Data

The App accesses your device camera to detect movement in the frame. This processing runs entirely on your device using on-device computation. Camera frames are analyzed in real time and immediately discarded. No frames, images, or video are ever saved to disk, stored in memory beyond the immediate detection pass, or transmitted anywhere.

1.2 Personal Information

We do not collect, store, or process any personal information. This includes, but is not limited to:

• Name, email address, or phone number
• Account credentials (the App has no accounts)
• Location data
• Device identifiers or advertising IDs
• IP address or network information
• Usage patterns or behavioral data

1.3 Analytics & Telemetry

The App contains no analytics, telemetry, crash reporting, or usage tracking code of any kind. We do not use any third-party analytics SDKs, advertising frameworks, or tracking technologies. We have no visibility into how, when, or where you use the App.

1.4 Network Activity

The App does not make any network requests. It does not connect to any server, API, or cloud service. The App functions fully offline and does not require an internet connection for any feature.

2. How the App Works

Backglance uses the following device capabilities for its core functionality:

• Camera: Accessed exclusively to detect movement in the background behind you. You grant camera permission through macOS System Settings. The App cannot access the camera without your explicit permission.
• Display / Overlay: The App draws a small mirror or alert overlay on your screen when movement is detected. This does not involve any data collection.

All processing occurs locally on your device. No aspect of the App's operation involves sending data off-device.

3. Data Storage

The App stores only your local preferences (such as mode selection and sensitivity level) using standard macOS preference storage. These preferences never leave your device and are not accessible to us or any third party.

4. Third-Party Services & Sharing

The App does not integrate with any third-party services, SDKs, or APIs. We do not share any data with third parties because we do not collect any data to share.

5. Children's Privacy

The App does not collect personal information from anyone, including children under the age of 13. Since no data is collected, stored, or processed, there is no mechanism by which the App could gather information from children.

6. Your Rights & Controls

You have full control over the App's access to your device:

• You can revoke camera access at any time through System Settings > Privacy & Security > Camera.
• You can pause or quit the App at any time from the menu bar.
• You can delete the App and all its local preferences by dragging it to the Trash.

7. Apple App Store Privacy Labels

For users who download the App through Apple's App Store: the App's privacy nutrition label accurately reflects that no data is collected. The relevant label categories (such as "Data Not Collected") are truthful and complete for all data types Apple requires disclosure for, including but not limited to: contact info, health & fitness, financial info, location, sensitive info, contacts, user content, browsing history, search history, identifiers, purchases, usage data, diagnostics, and surrounding environment data.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Because the App does not communicate with any server, we cannot notify you within the App itself. We encourage you to review this page periodically.

If any future version of the App were to introduce data collection of any kind, we would update this policy, disclose it clearly in the App's App Store listing, and where possible notify users before the change takes effect.
